Notes from the Bottlers:
The first of our Calvados cask finishes, although technically it’s an ex white port then calvados cask finish. Sometimes disasters happen in whisky. The two casks of Balblair that fitted into a small calvados cask are an example of one of these disasters. They should not have fitted, but they did, with room to spare. The angels share was savage. Luckily this is a tasty disaster, even if it’s a little more expensive than we would have hoped for as a result. You know we are always very honest with our customers and our consumers, so you’re getting the full story/list of excuses here.

But the liquid, well we’re really happy with that. A little over a year in the calvados cask has wonderfully elevated the spirit. It’s got that extra hit of bright green apples and a champagne like finish and unlike the Jura, the balance is definitely there. Many of our customers have enjoyed pairing some of our previous whiskies with the spirits we bottled from the finishing cask so they’re looking for the old calvados with the typhoon label to pair with this one. Uncommon distillery, with an uncommon cask finish, from a cask that means a lot to us that we brought back from Normandy ourselves, there’s a lot of heart in this one. Speaking of labels, we put Alex to work to design a Bayeux Tapestry themed label to provide the Normandy/calvados link. We think it’s rather charming. Expect 1066 and arrow in the eye themed tom foolery for the launch of this one.
