We love every cask we bottle, but that doesn’t stop us getting more excited about some casks than others. This is one of those casks. If you’ve visited us in the last couple of years, this first fill hoggie will have been pointed out to you, with the word “Ballindaloch” incorrectly scrawled
on the cask end with a missing ‘L’.
A teaspooned Ballindalloch, at least they could tell us what it was teaspooned with so we forgive them, 10mls of Mannochmore. And you can really taste the influence of those 10mls in that 250l cask, lol. It was time to bottle it when the freshness of the distillate that really made this cask stand out, began to balance with the maturity of the wood
and we did not want the cask to overtake the distillate.
Andrew met Tom in Aberlour once and complained about the teaspooning (a favourite rant topic) and threatened to name it “BALLS IN THE LOCH” as a protest. When Tom laughed we saw that as the green light, although we’ve gone all classy and used the Gaelic instead.
Biggles on the label because many of the books were written Ballindalloch Castle and if we can find any excuse to put some kind of vehicle on the label, that’s always going to win for us.
