Mac-Talla Virgin Oak Limited Release

A marriage of 27 standard Amercian barrels, Mac-Talla Virgin Oak Limited Edition has been fully matured in a selection of bourbon barrels and ‘#4 Char’ Virgin Oak barrels from Kelvin Cooperage in Kentucky, USA.

As a result, the gentle and floral distillate benefits from layers of underlying sweetness, rich vanilla & subtle spice, as the Virgin Oak softens the peat considerably, morphing it into something soft, sweet and very moreish. A gentle peat smoke, with a decadent helping of sticky toffee pudding, muscovado sugar, spices, dried fruit and vanilla.

From a process perspective, Morrison Distillers filled Islay New make spirit into casks we sourced directly from the distiller and cooperage in the USA. We’ve maintained full control of spirit sourcing, wood sourcing, cask filling, maturation and warehousing , vatting and bottling at our own production facilities at Aberargie.

While Virgin Oak is gaining traction as a cask type within the Scotch Whisky Industry, to date no core range Mac-Talla product has featured it. Mac-Talla Virgin Oak Limited Edition therefore introduces a much sweeter, richer Islay whisky in comparison to the Mac-Talla core range and provides an entirely new Mac-Talla experience to support whisky lovers ongoing Journey of Taste across Islay.
