Award-winning Barra Atlantic Gin is distilled from 17 specially selected botanicals, capturing the essence of our beautiful home. Born from the Island, with our key botanical hand foraged from the shores that surround our Island home on the edge of the Atlantic. Every drop of our Island spirit distilled, bottled and labelled right here on the Isle of Barra, from our Family Distillery.
We have moved away from using a stock bottle made from 100% flint glass to creating our very own custom-designed bottle but instead, our new bottles are produced from 78% recycled glass.
The bottle weight has been reduced by 17%, but crucially the distance from our new suppliers to the Isle of Barra Distillers is now almost halved, helping our Family Distilleries’ carbon footprint. Two final & crucial points to our new vessel, it is now 100% plastic free & 100% recyclable.
Tasting notes from the Scottish Gin Society:
“The Carrageen seaweed provides bold, maritime flavours, with a huge, menthol lean and a pinch of salty air.
Juniper dominates proceedings, it is dry and rich, flanked by the Carrageen and strong enough to paint the air a rich, herbal green.
A spice nip kicks in, but liquorice roots start to weigh the tongue down towards the end of the sip, adding a sweet viscosity that makes us think of saltwater taffy.
It makes for a great G&T. Refreshing and clean, with a long, gratifyingly warm spice finish that opens out like the vast vista surrounding its beautifully remote home. But the key to a perfect Barra serve is a little patience, take your time, enjoy & relax.”
“From the very beginning we have been very open minded about how our gin should be served as we all have different tastes and with the incredible array of mixers you can choose from, the limits really are endless. So, we took the approach to encourage anyone giving the Barra Gin a try to find their ‘own’ serve. We did however always suggest one serve and that was neat over ice so that you can really embrace the true natural taste of the Barra Gin.
Since then we have discovered two very popular serves that regularly come up and thought we had to share with you. Maybe there is an overall winner we really don’t know but we will let you decide. After all who doesn’t like to experiment.”
The first serve:
50ml Barra Gin
Dash of Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic
Wedge of lemon
Sprig of rosemary
The second serve:
50ml Barra Gin
Dash of Walter Gregors tonic
Wedge of pink or red grapefruit
Sprig of rosemary
