LBD Spirits Drookit Dug – Final Batch

Notes from the Bottlers:

Nothing exciting to see here, 10 year old blended Scotch. Blends are boring. Except you know this isn’t the case here and the headline figures don’t begin to tell the story of what fun these casks have been.
This is the last liquid from the vatting of casks since batch 2 of Drookit Dug. All selected from casks where there has been more angels share than expected, now 45.1% abv but at cask strength.
We wish we could list the full breakdown of casks on paper here but we are forbidden but please know here are a lot of predominantly Highland malts in this vatting and some very old grains, much much older than the age statement would suggest.
After vatting since batch 2, this blend has been maturing further in 2nd and 3rd fill, very quiet hogsheads. We wanted to extend that oxidative, reductive maturation without adding lots more wood. The spirit has continued to evolve with each batch and now we reach a richer climax.
It’s unlikely we’ll be able to repeat a blend like this any time soon, and for the sake of our finances we hope we don’t get too many parcels of very low fill, low abv casks! And so this is the final batch of the vatting that really has gained some attention from whisky drinkers around the world.

People who understand exactly what this whisky is for and value it beyond the headline numbers. A cask strength session dram, whisky for sharing. The depth and interest of cask strength whisky but at a much more approachable abv. We did joke, and maybe we’ll still do this, that we should release a batch with champagne corks, because you really don’t expect to put the cork back in the bottle once you open it…
It’s been fun sharing the evolution of this blend and great seeing the reception from proper whisky fans.
