Lindores Abbey was founded by monks from Thiron in 1191 and our centuries-old bond remains strong to this day. In 2018, Lindores Abbey Distillery founders, Drew and Helen McKenzie Smith, commissioned a number of casks to be created from the French oak trees that grow in the forests around the village of Thiron-Gardais, a unique opportunity available only to Lindores. Drew and Helen have since returned to Thiron to plant oak trees to replace the ones we have used.
We are delighted with the stunning end result of this Whisky and feel it embodies the legacy of the Tironensian monks, who laid down the foundations of Scotch Whisky. Each sip of our new Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a journey through time having been nurtured in virgin oak casks that connect the two Abbies across centuries.
The use of first fill bourbon casks and red wine barriques combined with the French Virgin oak has yielded a whisky of unparalleled character, a true embodiment of the dedication that bridges our past with our present.
